Tear yourself away from those iMacs and Dells. Take a break from all the fancy books Sam keeps recommending. Instead grab some popcorn or ice cream and a spot on the couch because here are five new TV shows worth watching this fall.
5. Bionic Woman (Wednesdays @ 9 on NBC) Mixed reviews from critics still can’t tear me away from Isaiah Washington’s first gig since his infamous final season on Grey’s Anatomy. And oh yeah, it’s a remake of a sci-fi classic, so it can’t be all bad.
4. Aliens in America (Mondays @ 8:30 on CW) A Pakistani exchange student comes to live with a Wisconsin-based family with two high school aged kids. This sounds a lot like “That 70s Show” without the bell-bottoms, but the critics love it so I’ll at least watch the pilot (especially since Scott Patterson of Gilmore Girls fame has a starring role).
3. Kitchen Nightmares (Thursdays @9 on Fox) Gordon Ramsey stars in this “Restaurant 911″ reality series. I hear that Chef leaves his boiling hot temper back in Hell’s Kitchen and instead reveals a much softer demeanor. Maybe he’ll be more lenient if the wellington is overcooked.
2. Cane (Tuesdays @ 10 on CBS) Jimmy Smits, Nestor Carbonell (he must have been rescued with the Losties!), and Eddie Matos add some spice to the sweet drama about the Duque family and their rum and sugar cane empire. I am guessing Sipowicz won’t be visiting Miami for a cameo, at least not until November sweeps.
1. Pushing Daisies (Wednesdays @ 8 on ABC) Ned bakes really yummy pies for a living. He also brings dead people back to life with a single touch. What a combination! Short teaser clips reveal a quirky plot unlike any other shows out there, and official reviews already include Emmy buzz. I’m sold!
Update - September 6,2007
Now that I have seen Fox’s ads for Kitchen Confidential I take back what I said about Chef Ramsey’s softer side. Restaurant owners beware: our old friend from Hell’s Kitchen is back, saucy comments and all!
