Have you ever wondered what an MIT education is like. Well, now you can find out, free of charge, in the comfort of your home. Power up your laptop, grab a soda, and point your browser to MIT OpenCourseWare where you will find syllabi, lecture notes, and homework assignments for hundreds of undergraduate and graduate level MIT courses in (currently) 35 disciplines.
The stated goal of MIT OpenCourseWare is to offers “a free and open educational resource for educators, students, and self-learners around the world.” It is a treasure trove for insatiably curious individuals (i.e., nerds) and professors who are teaching classes for the first time or designing new courses. I spent about 35 minutes on this site yesterday, and I’m stoked. I can’t wait to work through Biological Engineering 430J “Fields, Forces, and Flows in Biological Systems”. I only wish I could get course credit for it.
