Recommended Music Download - Apparat

equalizerThank God It’s Monday! Well, really it’s Tuesday, but yesterday was a holiday, so there. Anyways, this will be a regular weekly post of music that got me through the week last week, so I’m hoping to spread the love. This week includes: Walls by Apparat. You can read some of my random thoughts below, and/or just stream some samples from anywhere.fm under the playlist TGIM: 9/3/07.

Apparat - Walls

I love it when an electronic musician doesn’t sound purely electronic. Usually when I find out there are vocals on an electronic album, I get a little scared. But when it works, it really works. So is the case with Aparrat’s Walls. From the whispering in Hailin From The Edge (not quite like Ying Yang Twins, thankfully), to the Coldplay like cries in Arcadia, it seems to fit the electronic backdrop perfectly. Even songs that don’t have vocals, like Fractales Part I and II, sound like Ben Gibbard from Death Cab for Cutie ought to be singing along. And on an unrelated note, the hand clapping on Limelight rocks. There are beats throughout, with many layers to the songs. It ends with a classical 5 minute silence in the last song, Like Porcelain, reforming back into a 1-2 minute weirdness that rounds out the album nicely. Highly recommended.

Reminded me of (at times): Four Tet, Capitol K, Prince, Death Cab for Cutie
