Have you seen the post from Lifehacker detailing the construction of a DIY charging stations? If not, it is worth a look here. But let’s face it, if you assemble one of these devices, all you are really doing is acquiring ANOTHER cord! And then there’s the IKEA box that you have to buy (apparently they are only company that make suitable DIY boxes). What we really need is a one-spot charger with only one cord. Continue reading to find out about some potential solutions.

Wild Charge
Well, there is a solution, and it’s detailed in Kate Greene’s latest from MIT’s Technology Review. Jason Chen also featured this on Gizmodo back in June. Multi-device recharging from a single device is now available to you from WildCharge, a small firm out of Delaware. You can even order it online and have it shipped before Christmas (adapter included!) for the low low price of $89.99! There is one small problem though; it only works with the Motorola Razr right now. The website shows an iPod nano being charged, but that feature won’t be available until after Christmas. Wait, there is more bad news. The device still has a cord, you still have to lug it with you when you travel, you still have to put all your electronics in the same area (after more adapters are developed of course), and you still have to purchase the adapter! So why did I get your hopes up only to dash your dreams? Well, in short because it’s an awesome product and I really really want one.

The Future
Another reason is because I have a solution. On June 7, 2007, Franklin Hadley posted an article on MIT’s website titled “Goodbye Wires” and then on June 8, 2007 Charlie White posted a similar article titled MIT Dudes Develop Mind-Boggling Wireless Electricity. Do you see where I’m going with this? If Wildcharge and the MIT technology were to be combined, then we could end up with a single charging station that could wirelessly charge multiple devices, with different power needs, in a large area. This would be worth the one-year wait that I am giving them to do this before I start strangling people with all of my power adapters. We now are one step closer to 2:14 a.m. EST, August 29th, 2017 when SkyNet becomes self-aware.
