The trick to installing Ubuntu on a HP xw9300 workstation with Ultra320 SCSI hard drives is to set the no acpi install option. This can be done via the current Ubuntu installer by pressing F6 and selecting “acpi=off” by pressing the space bar. An ‘x’ should appear next to the option and you can now install normally.
